American Airlines' Flight Check-in allows you to check-in up to 24 hours before your flight departs. The requirements for using Flight Check-in are:
- Check-in 1-24 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.
- You have an electronic ticket for a confirmed reservation an American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection flight or a carrier with which AA has a domestic electronic agreement.
- Your itinerary only includes travel within the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- You are traveling in a group that is less than 10 people.
- You are not a special needs passenger.
Make sure you leave enough time at the airport to get through security, check your bags etc. You will be able to print your boarding pass at home but will have to drop your bags with an American Airlines skycap, at an American Airlines Self-service Kiosk or an American Airlines check-in counter at the airport before the cut-off time. When you use online Flight Check-in you can change or select your seat.
If you are checking bags in at the airport, American Airlines recommends you check in at least 90 minutes before your flight's departure time. If you are not checking bags in at the airport, American Airlines recommends you check in at least 60 minutes before your flight's departure time. For travel to/from Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, and other international destinations, American Airlines recommends that you arrive at the airport 2 hours before your flight's departure. For travel to/from Mexico, Nassau, Port-au-Prince, Port of Spain, Aruba, Delhi or India, American Airlines recommends that you arrive at the airport 3 hours before your flight's departure.

Children up to 2 years old (24 months), are not required to have their own seat. Lap children can only be held by passengers who are at least 15 years of age. You can also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.
While traveling domestically a child under 2 years old (24 months) can travel for free as long as the infant will be on the lap of another passenger for the flight.
While traveling internationally a child under 2 years old (24 months) is usually charged 10% of an adult fare plus taxes, even if the infant will be on the lap of another passenger for the flight.
Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Maximum dimensions of carry-on cuggage: 45 linear in/114 cm. Maximum weight of carry-on luggage 40 lb/18 kg.
Each passenger is allowed 2 checked bags as long as each bag adheres to the below requirements. Maximum dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm. Maximum weight 50 lb/23 kg.
Fee for any bag weighing 51-70 lb: $25. Fee for any bag weighing 70-100 lb: $50. Bags weighing more than 100 lb will not be accepted.
Fee for any bag between 63-115 in: $80. Bags with overall dimensions that exceed 115 inches will not be accepted.
Fee for additional bags 1-3: $80 each. Fee for additional bags 4-6: $105 each. Fee for additional bags 7+: $180 each.
